Our Lives As Prayer: October 2024

"A prayer is one who prays”

Returning for a third session of the “Our Lives As Prayer” series, join us for this unique opportunity to explore our experiences of prayer, the many forms prayer can take: spoken, sung, silent, tactile, embodied, within a religious tradition and outside of one, as part of a group or in solitude.
Sunday, October 6, 2024 | 11am -3pm | $35 donation

This is for anyone who wonders, what is a prayer?
For anyone who prays, who wants to pray, who needs prayer, who is a prayer.

Join us at Gateway House, a Multifaith Sacred Arts Community in Rosendale, NY for a workshop with Elizabeth Cunningham, author of My Life as a Prayer: A Multifaith Memoir. In this third 2024 session of “Our Lives As Prayer,” a workshop co-facilitated by Elizabeth Cunningham and Kathleen Mandeville, those who attended previously will have the opportunity to deepen their practice while also welcoming first timers.

The Turning of the Tide

As Our Lives As Prayer gatherings evolve,
Elizabeth and I continue to work thematically
Informed by intimate and global events as well as seasonal shifts.

We will be just on the cusp of the Autumnal Equinox
With its themes of balance and turning inward.
Our historical moment with the approaching election
And enduring, heartbreaking global circumstances
Is alive for us now.

Hence, the Turning of the Tide is the thematic focus
Of the third Our Lives As Prayer gathering.

Through guided meditation and interactive reflection, we will explore our experiences of prayer, the many forms prayer can take: spoken, sung, silent, tactile, embodied, within a religious tradition and outside of one, as part of a group or in solitude. Together we will consider ways to create a daily prayer practice or to refresh an existing one. We will complete our time with our own prayer circle.

During this extended 4 hour workshop we will also explore:

  • Maeve (of “The Maeve Chronicles”) will make a reprise appearance as well as possibly offer songs

  • Kathleen will offer continuing Kaleidoscopic Constellation practice

  • Create “object altars” in collaboration with the Kaleidoscopic Constellation work

  • Enjoy additional connection during our lunch together

Signed copies of My Life as a Prayer will be available for purchase.

We will meet outdoors weather permitting (indoors, if not); please dress for the weather.

We will begin promptly at 11am. You are welcome to arrive 15 minutes early to get settled.  Parking directions will be emailed by the day prior.

What To Bring

  • A brown bag lunch for yourself (some beverages and snacks will be provided).
