Dear Beloveds,

A Call to Courage

Last week I attended an interfaith prayer service, A Call to Courage, held at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. 1000 + people gathered together in the largest gothic cathedral in the world. A cathedral that names itself  'a house of prayer for all people.'

We were seated in the round in the Cathedral’s crossing. In the center stood a large silver bowl on a raised stand. At a key point in the service, we were invited to write on a note card [placed on our seats] what it was that we were most afraid of in these times. We were then invited to come forward and put our fears into the silver bowl while taking out someone else’s.

Sometimes we can’t hold our own fears, but we can hold somebody else’s.

We Are Born In This Time
Here we are, beloveds. As we keep saying to each other with our hearts ripping open, as the growing truth becomes astonishingly clear, where the inescapable reality that we are amidst a profound shift in the global world order. Like nothing we have experienced in our lifetime, right? Right, I say again? How do we grapple with this…what? What to call it?

And yet, I am here, at this time in human evolution. Depending on your faith or how you understand reality, I reckon with the truth that my spirit chose to incarnate at this time. At this moment of history.

I am here for a reason.

We are here to fulfill a function, play a part, be of service.

It is imperative we reckon with our fears as we find our purpose.

As we watch the unfolding chaos of greed untrammeled,
we must bring the unflinching light of scrutiny to the places within our own psyches and spirits that make us susceptible to the infection of fear.

In this way, we put on the armor of truth
so that we may rise.
Those of us who can, must.
Doesn’t that make our spirits rise? YES!

Part 1:
Fear Has A Lineage

I offer this meditation to you now:
Sit quietly.
Or run around in a panic.
Or do whatever you need to do
To acknowledge what you are most afraid of in these times.
Write it down.
Put on your altar, burn it, or bury it.
Do whatever might serve to release it.
Or ask a friend to bear it for you, or with you.
Ritualize it in some way for yourself.
And then further,
Consider
The source from which this fear arises within your very specific being-ness.
Your ancestry.
Fear has a lineage.
Find the root of yours.

And now, here’s Part 2:
Sourcing Your Purpose

Finding the antidote: Our Medicine.
To counteract our fears.
To transmute them…
Again, now
Find your center.
Go inward.
Locate your self in a particular landscape, however it comes to you.
Take note of  your surroundings.
Perhaps it’s a safe beloved landscape or someplace entirely new.
Observe [this place] it and take note.
Locate yourself there.
And then allow the presence of the divine
However it appears
To come.
You are standing before divine presence.
Take a moment and acknowledge the presence of Source.
And then, engage in a movement, an activity, whatever it is
Observe what your body is doing

Then find a line:  “I _____” that expresses your purpose.

Examples…

In one version of this meditation, I saw myself standing before the Goddess. I was moving stones. My line was, “I create sacred space.”

In a more recent version, I saw myself on the phone, and divine presence in this instance was Jesus. My line was “I speak community into being.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I offer this meditation as a way for us to get out of the ‘O my god, what can, should, must I do?!' ...the cyclical inner narrative to a place where we encounter our calling from divine source.
May this be a touchstone, a talisman, a place of deep knowing of our purpose as it is being called forth at this time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And now beloveds, may we come together, holding our fears and aligning in our purpose. Please join us at our Sanctuary Meeting on Thursday, February 27. More details below.

KALEIDOSCOPIC CONSTELLATIONS

Constellations is a beautiful way of seeing how our past histories inform our present views. This work enables us to source a kaleidoscopic gaze, recognizing that one shift, one slight turn allows the luminous fragments of our life to be beheld in a wholly different view.

Constellations is a very permeable form that enables practitioners to weave together their own modalities and capacities. As a ceremonialist and arts producer, I incorporate elements of both ritual and expressive arts into facilitation of Family & Systemic Constellations work, which I call Ritual or Kaleidoscopic Constellations.
